A voice in your head that no one else can hear — and the law has a file on it now.

It reads like science fiction, but this is a 2024 legal brief. “Voice to skull” — V2K — describes technology said to transmit sound directly into a person’s head using electromagnetic waves, with no speaker and no headphones. The microwave auditory effect. Microwave hearing. The Frey effect. Different names for the same claim: a voice that arrives inside the skull, that the person standing beside you cannot hear.

The document walks through what those affected report — unexplained voices, sounds that seem to come from inside their own heads — and the words the field uses for it: synthetic telepathy, remote neural monitoring, targeted individuals. It is candid that much of this is disputed, unproven, dismissed by many as pseudoscience.
