Read It Like You've Never Heard It Before

"The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple."

Before we go any further, I need you to do something for me.

Forget everything you've been taught.

Forget what your pastor told you. Forget what your denomination taught you. Forget what the seminary professor said. Forget the commentaries and the study notes and every margin someone else already filled in for you. Forget the Sunday school flannel board. Forget the stained glass version of the Bible that made everything feel safe and distant and decorative.

Now imagine you've never heard any of it. You've never been to church. You've never been told what to believe. You've never had anyone stand between you and the Bible, telling you what it means.

But you've heard of this God. You've heard people talk about Him. You've always suspected there was something bigger than you out there. You believe in something — you just don't know what it is yet.

You want to know more. You want to know who He is. So you pick up the oldest English translation you can find — because you figure the closer to the source, the closer to the truth. Not the $50 study Bible with someone else's notes in the margins. Not the one with a celebrity pastor's name on the cover. Just the text. You open it and start reading.

Here's what you'd find.

The Whole Book Points to One

The very first thing you'd discover is that the entire Bible — from the first verse to the last — appears to point to a single entity. One Spirit. One presence. One voice behind everything.

Scripture calls Him Christ.

And He didn't show up in the New Testament. He was there from the very beginning.

The second verse of the entire Bible tells you how He got here:

Forsothe the erthe was idel and voide, and derknessis weren on the face of depthe; and the Spiryt of the Lord was borun on the watris.

Forsooth the earth was idle and void, and darknesses were on the face of (the) depth; and the Spirit of the Lord was borne on the waters.

Borne — not born. Borne. Like airborne. Like waterborne. Carried into. Moved through. In contact with. Think about what happens in electrical work when current meets a dead wire — it runs through it, energizes it, makes it capable of carrying what it could not carry before. That's the picture here. The Spirit of the Lord made contact with the chaos. And creation was the result.

Not hovering passively above from a distance. Not watching. Present. Moving through the formless void with purpose and power.

He is in the earth itself. In the midst of it — not above it, not outside it, not watching it from a distance. The Hebrew word is qereb — Strong's H7130. It means the inward part. The interior. The deepest center of a thing. The same word Scripture uses for the innermost parts of a person — the seat of thought, feeling, and life. The same word for the earth as for you. He is in the center of both.

He said it Himself:

I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.

— Exodus 8:22 (KJV)

Not over the earth. Not beyond it. In it. And the psalmist confirmed it:

For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

— Psalm 74:12 (KJV)

Two witnesses. Same declaration. He is not above it. He is in it.

The same way He is in you. Where the Kingdom of God is.

For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.

— Luke 17:21 (NKJV)

The NIV renders it differently — "the kingdom of God is in your midst." Among you. External. Collective. But the older translations say within. Inside. The inward part. Qereb. The Kingdom is not approaching from outside. It is already in the interior of the one who carries it.

Christ was borne into creation the way current moves through wire — not sitting on top of it, but running through it, in it, of it. The tree pulling water up through its roots. The blood moving through your heart. The oxygen your lungs pull from the air without a single conscious thought. The mind forming a sentence before the mouth speaks it. Every living thing — every breathing, growing, moving, pulsing thing on this earth — carries Him. Not as a metaphor. Not as poetry. Because He was borne into the world before any of it existed. He is Earth. He didn't create life and step back. He IS the life. He is what makes the living thing live.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

And once you understand that — that He is in the midst of it, that He is what makes the living thing live — then you will start to look at what we are doing to this earth differently. You will start to understand what we are doing to Him. You will start to see the vulnerable god Scripture talks about.

...the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee...

— Revelation 18:23 (KJV)

The rainforests razed to the ground — the most living places on earth, gone. Animals locked in laboratories, their flesh used to test what we put on our faces and swallow as medicine. Venom extracted and injected into the human body in the name of beauty and healing. The living thing cut open, consumed, and discarded — so the system can sell what it made from the wreckage. The list is non-exhaustive.

If Christ is in the living thing — if He IS the Earth — then what does it mean that we are killing the living things? What does it mean that we are killing the earth?

Vulnerable God.

He breathed Himself into everything that carries life. And we have spent generations treating this earth like it is ours to consume. Like it is raw material. Like nothing inside it matters — not recognizing that He is inside it, and we are killing it.

That's not just an environmental crisis. That's existential, and He is the one at risk.

He is not a guest in the living thing. He is not visiting it or passing through it. He is the reason it lives at all. Where there is life — any life, in any form — that life exists because He is in it. Remove Him and there is no life.

He is not in creation the way water is in a sponge — something that could be squeezed out while the sponge remains. He is in creation the way water is in a river. Without the water there is no river. There is no bank. There is no current. There is nothing to call a river at all.

And once you understand that — that He is not above the living thing watching it, not beside it sustaining it from a distance, but IN it as the very reason it is alive — then you begin to understand what it meant when that same life spoke. When it moved through a voice. Through a person. Through a prophet.

He was in them long before Jesus was ever born:

Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

Yet many years didst thou forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets.

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Jesus was not the first person to carry the Spirit of Christ.

Christ moved through creation. He was present from Genesis 1:2 to Revelation 22. Borne on the waters before the world began. Dwelling in men from the first breath to the last.

That's the foundation of the entire Bible. And if you miss that, you miss everything.

He Is Here

The second thing you'd notice is that since this God was borne here, He is not far away.

He's not sitting in space watching down on us from a distance. He's walking in a garden in the cool of the day. He's speaking from fire. He's filling temples with smoke. He's standing in a furnace with three men who should be dead. He's calling a boy by name in the middle of the night — a boy who had served in His temple his whole life but had never once heard His voice — because knowing about God and hearing from God are two different things.

This God is HERE. From the first chapter to the last, He is present. In the earth. In the midst of it. In His creation.

The Bible begins with Christ creating and dwelling within man. It ends the same way.

And Y herde a greet vois fro the trone, seiynge, Lo! the tabernacle of God is with men, and he schal dwelle with hem; and thei schulen be his puple, and he God with hem schal be her God.

And I heard a great voice from the throne, saying, Lo! the tabernacle of God is with men, and he shall dwell with them; and they shall be his people, and he God with them shall be their God.

The whole story — from Genesis to Revelation — is about a God who wants to be WITH us. Not above us. Not distant from us. With us. In us.

If you read this book cold, that's one of the first things that would hit you. This is not a story about a God who left. It's a story about a heartbroken God who has always been here, waiting for His people to see that He never left them. And if He never left them, He won't return. Because He never left.

You Are a Vessel

The third thing you'd notice is that human beings were designed as vessels.

Christ formed Adam from dust and then breathed Himself into him. The body was just material — dirt, clay, earth. It didn't become alive until Christ entered it.

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

That breath — that life — was Christ Himself.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

— John 1:4 (KJV)

It was Christ. His life IS the light inside every person who has ever lived. He didn't just create us and walk away. He breathed Himself into us.

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

The light of men — the thing that makes us alive, aware, conscious, creative — that's Him. It's always been Him.

You'd see this pattern everywhere. The body is the vehicle. The spirit is the driver. Without the driver, the vehicle sits lifeless in the dirt.

And if you kept reading, you'd realize the entire Bible is about one question: Who's driving?

Chosen Before the Womb

The fourth thing you'd notice is that Christ hand-picks certain vessels. He forms them in the womb before they are born and marks them before they are ever conceived.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.

— Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV)

Christ would choose specific people to be His messengers. His spokespersons. His prophets.

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb.

— Psalm 139:13 (NKJV)

But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb and called me through His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles...

— Galatians 1:15–16 (NKJV)

Listen, O coastlands, to Me, and take heed, you peoples from afar! The LORD has called Me from the womb; from the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.

— Isaiah 49:1 (NKJV)

These were people chosen before birth. Set apart. Ordained as prophets. Meaning they would hear His Word, which is His voice.

...his name is called The Word of God.

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

— John 10:27 (NKJV)

They would lead. They would deliver nations. They would do things far beyond their natural ability. Moses parted the sea. David killed a giant. Elijah called fire from heaven. None of them were qualified on paper. All of them were chosen before the womb.

People Hear from Christ — and It's Normal

The fifth thing you'd notice — and this one would shock you if you had no church background — is that people hear from Christ constantly in this book. And nobody treats it like it's strange.

Adam heard Christ's voice in the garden. Abraham heard Christ tell him to leave his country. Moses heard Christ speak from a burning bush. Samuel heard his name called in the middle of the night as a child. David inquired of the Lord and received answers. Elijah heard a still small voice. Isaiah saw a vision of Christ's throne. Ezekiel saw wheels and living creatures. Daniel saw visions of the future. Paul heard Christ's voice on the road to Damascus. John received the entire book of Revelation through visions.

Kings heard. Slaves heard. Children heard.

Hearing from Christ is not the exception in this book. It's the baseline. It's how the relationship was designed to work. Christ speaks. His people hear. That's the pattern from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22.

No one was medicated. No one was institutionalized. No one was told their brain was broken. They were listened to. They were tested. They were either confirmed as speaking truth or exposed as speaking lies. But the hearing itself was never treated as a disease.

If you read this book with no filter, you'd walk away thinking: hearing from the spiritual realm is one of the most normal things a human being can experience.

So when did it become a mental illness?

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

He's still knocking. He's still speaking. The question was never whether He stopped talking. The question is whether we stopped listening — or whether someone convinced us the knocking wasn't real.

And if you kept reading this book, you'd see exactly what happens to the ones who do open the door.

Hearing from Christ was normal — but it was never safe. Those who believed the prophets followed them. Those who didn't wanted them dead. Jeremiah was thrown in a pit by his own leaders. Elijah was hunted by a queen. Jesus Himself was accused of having a demon by the religious establishment. The closest you get to a clinical label is Festus calling Paul mad in Acts 26:24 — and Paul didn't flinch. He looked him in the eye and said he was speaking words of truth and reason.

The mechanism was different then. No prescription pad. No diagnosis. No institution. Just a pit. A queen with a death threat. A cross. The world has always found a way to silence the ones who hear. The method changed. The impulse never did.

Hearing from Christ didn't make them popular. It made them dangerous — to every system built on lies. The world didn't silence them because their ears were broken. The world silenced them because it could not handle what they carried.

And that hasn't changed.

There Is an Enemy

The sixth thing you'd notice is that there is an enemy. And he showed up early.

By the third chapter of the entire Bible, a serpent is already in the garden, already talking, already deceiving. And his strategy never changes. He doesn't overpower anyone. He doesn't need to. He just gets them to believe the wrong thing.

"Did God really say?"

That's his weapon. Not force. Not violence. A question. A seed of doubt. A whisper that sounds reasonable enough to follow.

And if you kept reading, you'd see the same enemy doing the same thing in every generation. Deceiving. Twisting. Counterfeiting. Taking what Christ designed and flipping it just enough that people follow the wrong voice thinking it's the right one.

He doesn't create. He copies. He doesn't have authority. He steals it. He doesn't speak truth. He twists it just enough to make the lie feel true.

That's what deception is — believing something false while being fully convinced it's true. And this book warns about it from beginning to end. One spirit. Many names.

The Religious System Is Almost Always the Problem

The seventh thing you'd notice — and this one would disturb you — is that the religious establishment is almost never on the right side.

There were faithful individuals within it — but they were almost always the ones fighting against it, not leading it.

The priests corrupted the temple. Laws were given that Christ never spoke. Commands for blood, for violence, for ritual — things Christ Himself would later rebuke.

"To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?" says the Lord. "I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats. When you come to appear before Me, who has required this from your hand, to trample My courts?"

When Christ showed Himself through Jesus, it wasn't the pagans who rejected Him most violently. It was the religious leaders. The ones with the scrolls. The ones with the law. The ones with the theology degrees. The ones who could quote Scripture from memory. They looked at the messenger Christ sent standing in front of them — and their law told them to kill him.

If you read this book cold, you'd walk away deeply suspicious of any of the 45,000 Christian denominations that claim to have the truth. Because in this book, that's almost always where the deception lives — not outside the church, but inside it.

Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees.

The corruption He warned about was inside the house.

To the Christian reading this, if that makes you uncomfortable, I need you to stay with me. Because this isn't an attack on your faith. This is an appeal to it.

Deception, by its very definition, means you don't know you're in it. That's what makes it deception. If you knew it was a lie, you wouldn't believe it. The people in this book who were deceived weren't stupid. They weren't careless. They loved their version of God. They studied Scripture. They tithed. They showed up every Sabbath. And they still missed what was right in front of them — because the lie looked so much like the truth that they couldn't tell the difference.

That's not an insult. That's a warning. And it's a warning Christ gave through Jesus Himself. If He thought His own followers needed to hear it, maybe we should stop being offended by it and start asking: what if it applies to us too?

The Cure Is Always the Same

The eighth thing you'd notice is that the cure for every problem in this book is the same. It's never a pill. It's never a system. It's never a program or a payment or a prescription.

It's seeing. Hearing. Turning. Trusting.

The Israelites were bitten by serpents. The cure? Look at the bronze serpent on the pole. See the enemy. Recognize the bite. Be healed through faith.

Naaman had leprosy. The cure? Go wash in the Jordan. No medicine. No treatment. Obedience and faith.

The Gerasene demoniac was cutting himself, living in tombs, screaming, uncontrollable. The cure? Jesus spoke to what was tormenting him — and by the finger of Christ He cast it out — and the man sat down clothed and in his right mind. No medication. No institution. No diagnosis.

Every healing in this book follows the same pattern: recognize the real problem, look to Christ, and be restored. Not managed. Not medicated. Not stabilized. Restored.

If you read this book with no filter, you'd never arrive at the conclusion that the answer to spiritual affliction is a pharmaceutical. You'd never get there. Not from this text.

And yet that's exactly where the world went.

So Why Don't We See It?

Because we've been taught not to.

We've been taught to read this book through the lens of systems — denominational systems, theological systems, medical systems, cultural systems. We've been taught to let other people tell us what it means instead of reading it for ourselves. We've been taught to trust the commentary more than the text.

And the result is exactly what this book warns about: the blind leading the blind.

Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.

If you're wondering whether you might be one of the blind — the fact that you're asking means your eyes are already starting to open.

But some of you aren't just blind. You aren't just missing the signs. You're trapped inside a darkness you don't have a name for yet. This book shows you the way out. Stay with me, we will get there.

Fellowship with this God transforms you from the inside out. When Moses came down from the mountain after communing with God's Word, he didn't even know his own face was shining:

And whanne Moises cam doun fro the hil of Synai, he helde twei tablis of witnessyng, and he wiste not that his face was horned of the felouschipe of Goddis word.

And when Moses came down from the hill of Sinai, he held in his hands two tables of witnessing, and he wist not that his face was horned with wonderful shining beams, of the fellowship of God's word.

The fellowship of God's Word.

Fellowship is a two-way word. You can study alone. You can read alone. You can analyze alone. But you cannot fellowship alone. Fellowship requires two. A presence on both sides. A back-and-forth. A relationship.

Moses wasn't studying the Word. He was in fellowship with the Word — which means the Word was present. Responsive. Personal. Moses spoke and something spoke back. That is not a reading session. That is a conversation with a Person.

Wycliffe saw it. He didn't write the study of God's word or the teaching of God's word. He wrote the fellowship of God's word. The communion. The two-way presence. Which means Wycliffe understood — before the translators after him softened it — that what Moses experienced on that mountain was not information transfer. It was encounter.

That phrase matters. Because the Word of God is not just a description of Scripture. It's a name:

He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

Moses wasn't communing with a book. He was communing with a Person. And it showed on his face.

That's what this book says when nobody's standing between you and the page.

But what if someone has been standing between you and the page for a very long time? And you just haven't seen him?
