You’re Not the Only One Hearing It

Somewhere between five and fifteen percent of people have heard a voice no one else could hear. Most were never mentally ill. Some called it God.

This article is not from a ministry or a pulpit — it is from a secular health publication. And even it admits what the church often will not: hearing voices is common. Between 5 and 15 percent of the general population has experienced it at some point, and it is not limited to people with severe mental illness. Anyone can hear.

It goes further. Among the causes it lists — psychiatric conditions, trauma, substance use — it names one more: spiritual or religious experience. Voices perceived as coming from a higher power, or as a form of divine communication. A health site said that. Not us.
